Parsonage Way Field Consultation: Summary Report

A summary report for the consultation for proposed improvements to Parsonage Way Field is now available (Parsonage Way Consultation Summary Report). The consultation ran from 17th August 2018 to 5th September 2018 and received 184 responses.

The Parish Council will be meeting in the New Year to discuss the findings of the consultation. A final scheme will be produced, including any amendments if appropriate and potential funding sources will be identified to help deliver the improvements.

Updates will be provided on the Parish Council’s website and Facebook page.

Lifesaving Defibrillator installed at Tim Parry Community Centre

A defibrillator has been installed outside Tim Parry Community Centre, off Wroxham Road to give members of the public access to the potentially life-saving device.

The wall-mounted defibrillator was purchased by Great Sankey Parish Council and can be used by members of the public at any time to aid someone in cardiac arrest. After phoning 999 an ambulance operator will give a code to open the box where the defibrillator is housed and also instruct people with no experience on how to use it safely and effectively.

The defibrillator is intended to be used by untrained members of the public and gives recorded instructions on its use. It checks the heart rhythm and gives an electric shock, if required, to restore a normal rhythm.

Councillor Steve Pennington, who was involved in the purchase of the defibrillator said:

“ Hopefully the defibrillator( AED)  at the Tim Parry Community Centre will never need to be used. However recent local events have shown us that even young children can suffer a cardiac arrest when playing football or other vigorous sports. The installation of an AED near to a popular pitch and play area is reassuring to the local community. The use of the automated defibrillator will allow earlier access to appropriate treatment which can make the difference between life and death.”

Great Sankey Parish Council install three silent silhouettes to honour war sacrifice

To mark the centenary of the end of the first world war Great Sankey Parish Council have placed three life-sized ‘silhouettes’ around Great Sankey

The silent silhouettes commemorate the 1.1 million British and Empire Service men and women who died during the war.

One has been placed on Lingley Green, one on Sankey Way Roundabout and one outside Whittle Hall Community Centre.

A donation of £750 was given to the Royal British Legion for the purchase of the silhouettes and is part of their ‘Thank you’ campaign to remember all of those involved in the war effort.

Omega Development HGV Parking Problem

Chapelford and Old Hall Borough Councillors recently attended a meeting with officers from Warrington Borough Council, the police, local residents and representatives from Omega Warrington Limited to discuss the issue of heavy goods vehicles parking on public roads in the area overnight.

This is an issue with vehicles parking up whilst waiting access to warehouses at Omega. Burtonwood Road has been affected in the past, however following reporting by local residents and the Police speaking with the lorry drivers, the issue appears to have resolved in this area. Currently, the roads of the partially-completed new housing around Omega appear to be the areas most affected.

The Police have agreed to liaise with the drivers and local businesses to discourage the practice. Police officers will also investigate other possible enforcement measures.

Please contact your Ward Councillor and let them know if you see any HGV overnight parking in the ward .

“We are now well established with approximately 30 regular members, our group provides companionship to residents by offering refreshments, crafts and games (no  physical exertion needed!) and regular guest speakers on topics of interest. The group have recently enjoyed talks from The Dogs’ Trust, charity assistance for women in Bangladesh and Macmillan cancer charity.

We also organise coach trips throughout the year and have visited Oswaldtwistle Mill, St Helens World of Glass, Anderton Boat Lift and Llandudno.

In order to continue with our success, we require additional volunteers, people don’t have to commit to volunteering every fortnight, any help is appreciated.

If you’re interested in coming to the group, you’ll find a very warm welcome.”

Tim Parry Recreation Ground multi-sports facility upgrade

Work on the multi-sports area at Tim Parry Recreation Ground will commence on Thursday 18th October 2018.

Phase one of the £55k upgrade will include the installation of two new enclosed goals with rebound fencing, a new pathway linking the current pedestrian path to the multi-sports area and the installation of three new benches.

Phase two will commence shortly afterwards and will include the installation of six new lighting columns, which will allow children to access the sports facility during the winter months. A full tarmac re-skim and new sports line marking will complete the upgrade.

Funding for the improvements has been awarded through a £40k grant by WREN (Waste Recycling Environmental) and £19k investment from the Parish Council.

Tony Williams, Ward Borough Councillor said,

“Great Sankey Parish Council have been planning to upgrade the multi-sports area for some time and are delighted that the WREN funding bid was successful, and this work can now happen. These improvements are in line with the Parish Council’s strategy to provide enhanced community facilities and follows on from the £300k refurbishment of Tim Parry Community Centre, which was completed earlier this year”

Proposals to improve Parsonage Way Field

Great Sankey Parish Council have been working with Warrington Borough Council on proposals to improve the field at Parsonage Way, which fronts onto Liverpool Road.

Warrington Borough Council was engaged to undertake a public consultation on behalf of Great Sankey Parish Council to find out if residents were in favour of proposals to improve the field. These would include installing a dwarf wall and railings, improving access to the field by centralising the pedestrian access with a new focal ornate gate, installation of a children’s play area with an access path, and improving the drainage of the field to allow it to be used all year round. Planting as part of the design will be made at designated locations on the field.

The consultation has now ended, and the results have shown that one hundred and ninety-five residents took part, with 74% in favour of the proposals. The full results from the consultation will be published on the Parish Council’s website.

Peter Watson, Chairman of Great Sankey Parish Council said

We are delighted with the level of response from residents, the Parish Council took over the lease from Warrington Borough Council two years ago with the view to help protect and improve our green spaces.                                                                                                       We will continue to work with Warrington Borough Council to apply for funding to implement the project. We want the field at Parsonage Way to remain as a green space that is valued as an asset to the community and is accessible for all users.

The Parish Council will keep residents informed as the project develops.
